Camp, Trash, Filth Opening Reception with Performance & Screenings
Artesian On 13th, 2627 13th Ave, Regina, SK
NOTE: mature subject matter This performance, screenings, and opening reception are part of Camp, Trash, Filth: John Waters Visits Regina is an 8-day event that includes screenings, performances, and talks — and of course John Waters himself! PERFORMANCE: SHAWNA DEMPSEY & LORRI MILLAN The revolting and the revolutionary, the forgotten and the famed are all united by big wigs, in this time travelling escapade. From 17th century French firebrands to Star Trek bit players Dempsey and Millan explore the power of hair. SCREENING: GUY MADDIN'S "THE LITTLE WHITE CLOUD THAT CRIED" The Little White Cloud that Cried is an explicit tribute to legendary underground filmmaker Jack Smith. Goddesses unharnessing the power of the sea and putting it into a whole new element as they engage in orgiastic battles and whoopla. It was commissioned for the Jack Smith festival "Five Flaming Days in a Rented World" in Berlin. SCREENING: BRUCE LaBRUCE'S "NO SKIN OFF MY ASS" followed by a Q&A LaBruce’s seminal first feature is a low-rent semi-remake of Robert Altman’s That Cold Day in the Park, with LaBruce himself taking the Sandy Dennis role. Shot on grainy Super 8 blown up to 16mm, with LaBruce’s exaggeratedly emotive voiceover scoring the action, No Skin Off My Ass is “sweeter than Warhol, subtler than Kuchar, sexually more explicit than Van Sant” (Amy Taubin, The Village Voice). Bruce LaBruce will be in attendance to introduce and conduct a Q&A. OPENING RECEPTION Join us after the screening for complimentary snacks and cash bar.
