Fulfilling the Treaty Right to Education for Indian Residential School Survivors and Their Families

The Office of the Treaty Commissioner will facilitate 4-hour virtual information sessions for Indian Residential School Survivors and their family members (survivors of survivors).

The sessions will increase awareness and understanding of the history and legacy of residential schools and how those systems effected Indigenous people, our families and our communities. By understanding these systems, which disrupted our nations, through learning opportunities provided by a facilitator, Knowledge Keepers and Elders. The sessions will honour the survivors, their families, and communities by providing a safe place to understand the historical context of the Indian Residential School system, how systems have affected identities as a Treaty person, impacted Treaty rights and responsibilities, and the implications of that legacy.

Please register by sending cgardiner@otc.ca your:

Name, Nation/Community, and if you are a survivor or the family of a survivor. Please write "IRS Training" in the subject.

We will have weekly sessions starting Feb.1, 2021 and until the late spring.

Once registered you will receive a choice of dates to participate. Once the date is selected you will receive Zoom login information. Communities are encouraged to provide opportunities for their members to access this virtual training.

If you are looking to arrange this training for your community, contact Director of Public Education at aseesequasis@otc.ca
