Virtual - A Christmas Long Ago

Christmas is a time when many people’s thoughts turn to family gatherings, decorated trees, turkey dinners, brightly wrapped gifts and holiday traditions. Join us this December to travel back in time and experience one family's celebrations over 100 years ago.

Like today, children of long ago grew more excited as the holiday season drew near – wondering what the hung stocking would hold, what new toy may be under the tree, what shape the newly cut tree would take, and what goodies the family would bake.

Through this virtual Museum-led program, we provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about 1910 settler life and, in particular, about family traditions during the holiday season. Hear a story, and see photos from the past; participants will learn how families prepared for the holidays, what types of gifts were given and what Christmas Day was like for settlers in a rural area of Saskatchewan. Recommended for ages five years and up; families welcome! There will be time afterwards for sharing memories and stories of your own traditions and celebrations.

This virtual program will take place over Zoom at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 23. There is no cost to participate in this program, however, you must pre-register in advance so a Zoom link to the program can be sent to you. You can register for the virtual program here:

(There are also four in-person sessions happening earlier in December - Saturday, December 10 and 17, at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm each day. Space is limited for the in-person programs and pre-registration is required. You can learn more and purchase tickets for the in-person programs Your ticket will also allow you to visit the Museum galleries before or after the program at no extra cost.)
