Working with Disruption & Resistance Training

Hampton Inn & Suites, 110 Gateway Blvd

In many ways the facilitation work we are engaged in is a form of resistance to systems of power and oppression. We are seeking to disrupt participants’ thoughts, feelings and actions to build the understanding and respect necessary for welcoming and inclusive communities and organizations Because this requires change, facilitators will likely meet with resistance from some participants. This can create disruptions that may affect a facilitator’s ability to achieve the objectives for the session. In this interactive training we will learn: • What is disruption? • What is resistance? • What forms of disruption or resistance occur in ‘our’ world? • How to use guidelines (for safety and respect) and other methods to minimize the likelihood of various types of disruptions. • How to manage these moments well for the benefit of all participants.
