Genealogy and Identity: Rediscovering my German Roots

In partnership with the Saskatchewan Library Association's "One Book, One Province 2019", SGC would like to present: Genealogy and Identity: Rediscovering my German Roots Speaker: Merv Weiss Merv grew up in the predominantly German community of Fox Valley, Saskatchewan. The vast majority of the early pioneer homesteaders were Germans who had immigrated from the Black Sea region of old South Russia (today Ukraine). Merv has been actively researching his German-Russian background since the year 2000. To this end, he has made several trips to Ukraine and to Germany. Locating and meeting descendants of his Grandfather’s siblings in Germany helped him re-discover his “German-ness”. free event!
