Gathering of the Descendants of the Big Bear Band
Little Pine First Nation Cultural Grounds, Little Pine
Descendants of the Big Bear Band have been scattered in a diaspora Since the Chief refused to choose reserve land immediately after signing treaty. His followers were forced to join with other bands or chose to leave, some choosing to leave for the United States. 2018 was the first gathering of the Band in 134 years. Descendants relate stories from the oral tradition describing their family's history beginning with 1885. Their versions contradict official Canadian historical accounts made by Indian Affairs, the Northwest Mounted Police as well as media reports of the day.
