Decolonial Love Poems For the Land with ecoaborijanelle

This beginner-friendly workshop will have participants craft a poem inspired by their gratitude and appreciation for loved ones and loved places in their lives. Participants will take a stanza from their newly-written work and create a hand-made card that they may take home. The following supplies will be provided: card paper, basic craft supplies, and colourful markers and pens. Consider bringing special paper, ribbons, or other elements to include on your card.

ecoaborijanelle aka Janelle Pewapsconias (she/her) is a nehīyaw spoken word poet, game designer, and grassroots activist from Little Pine First Nation. She shares stories and perspectives that highlight both the complexities of Canada’s colonial history and celebrating resilience, healing, and connection to this land. She has read poetry across the prairie provinces and has launched her first self-published chapbook, “kikawiynaw askiy, Mother Earth” and is currently editing her second chapbook “#30WaterPoemsForMotherEarth”!

ecoaborijanelle speaks from the experience of an Indigenous woman, but reminds everyone that her perspective does not represent all Indigenous people to Turtle Island.
