PERMANENT FULL TIME CULTURAL PROGRAMMER

The City of Humboldt is seeking a permanent full-time Cultural Programmer in the Cultural Services Department. This position is based at the Museum and the Gallery, but encompasses a wide variety of community programs, exhibits and programs at the Original Humboldt site, Water Tower, and in municipal Public Art.

OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Director of Cultural Services, and reporting to the Museum Supervisor, the employee in this position will develop and implement arts and heritage education and public programs including school programs and special events.
COMPENSATION
This is an in-scope position under CUPE Local 2359 Union with the 2019 rate of pay starting at $20.19/hr. Employees are eligible for the employer matched defined pension plan, annual paid vacation days and a comprehensive health and wellness plan which includes a leisure service pass to amenities at the Humboldt Uniplex.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Programmer including:
• Ensure that the daily tasks and special projects required of the department are completed in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
• Develop, implement and evaluate arts and heritage education programs.
• Develop, coordinate and implement public programs, including tours, special events, and workshops.
• Conduct research and develop temporary and permanent heritage exhibits.
• Uphold appropriate museum standards for environmental conditions and cleanliness of all facilities or site.
• Provide information and gift shop services to ensure all sites are open for visitors as per scheduled hours.
• Assist in creating a cooperative teamwork atmosphere among staff, volunteers and the public.
• Participate in general upkeep of buildings, sites and equipment to ensure staff and public safety.
• Facilitate the exhibition of temporary art exhibits.
• Develop and sustain partnerships with artists, community groups, sponsors and provincial organizations for projects, exhibits and programs.
• Participate in collections management including the conservation, safety and documentation of the permanent and special collections.
• Create community engagement programs and activities through website and social media.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
• Extremely organized to handle several projects and sites simultaneously.
• Excellent public relations skills and an effective working relationship with all areas of the public.
• Consistency in operational procedures and reporting on activities such as gift shop, donations, fund-raising events, and general statistical data.
• Be informed and knowledgeable about Humboldt’s culture and heritage.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• Graduation from a recognized Museum Studies program and/or equivalent experience in a museum.
• Prior experience in the development and provision of education and public programs.
• Prior experience working in a team setting and with volunteers.
• Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software.
• Physically able to perform duties as required.
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence
HOURS OF WORK
• General work schedule – Tuesday to Saturday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
• 37.5 hours per week
• Special events and programs require flexibility in the work schedule (working evenings)
