COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT - Melfort & District Museum is a community museum in Northeastern Saskatchewan. Since 1973, we have been committed to the preservation of our heritage and telling the story of those peoples that inhabited our area and those settlers who developed it. We bring the community into the museum and take the museum out into the community. We have a vast collection of almost 40,000 items that depict indigenous, archaeological, agricultural, and pioneer life.
This position involves overseeing exhibits in the Indigenous Peoples Archaeology building, the new Chinese Cafe & Laundry, and the General Store. Assistance is also required with the restoration of a 1912 CP Caboose. All of these tasks include archival work and archival projects on obituaries and school memories as time allows. The development of promotional materials and general museum duties will be ongoing. The position is fulltime, October 12, 2021 – February 12, 2022, 5hrs/day, 5days/week, for 18 weeks. Salary is $17/hr. We actively encourage applications from members of groups with historical and/or current barriers to equity, diversity and inclusion. Applicants must adhere to eligibility requirements of Young Canada Works Building Careers in Heritage. Ideally, candidates should be recent graduates of a degree program in museum studies, archaeology, Indigenous Studies, or History. The candidate must be self-motivated, a team player, a dedicated worker, and must act in a professional manner with the public.
