The Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery is currently recruiting a casual gallery greeter to assist with vacations, illness, and holidays & events. This position requires flexibility and is an as-needed/on call position. Shifts would include weekdays and weekends.

Position: Casual Gallery Greeter

Description: Responsible to the Director/Curator of Moose Jaw Art Museum Incorporated for welcoming the public to the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery (MJM&AG) and performing associated duties during public hours.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Gallery Greeter is responsible to the Director/Curator for the performance of the following:

1. To be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the MJM&AG, its exhibitions and programs, and the community, in order to be a good ambassador for the MJM&AG and the City of Moose Jaw.

2. To welcome visitors in a friendly, positive manner, and to share information with them about the MJM&AG, its facility, exhibitions, and programs, and the City of Moose Jaw, its history and events, in a congenial, constructive manner.

3. To meet with the Education Coordinator and , if required, the Director/Curator to discuss exhibition content and to assist as needed and appropriate in preparation of related program activities.

4. To perform security duties, including opening and closing, monitoring and recording video surveillance, conducting periodic inspections, completing security checklists, encouraging appropriate conduct from visitors to the gallery and museum, and taking appropriate actions required for the safety of visitors, the collections and exhibitions, including contacting authorities as required.

5. To maintain exhibits in their original condition, including replenishing supplies of printed material, monitoring and operating sound and video equipment, reorganizing hands-on activities and materials, light housekeeping duties, and other appropriate and necessary related duties.

6. To answer the telephones, record and distribute messages, take registrations and payment for art classes, payment for memberships and publications sales, registrations for school tour bookings, and other receptionist and minor clerical duties as required.

7. To collect statistical information, including recording visitor counts, conducting surveys, and engaging visitors in conversation as appropriate, recording pertinent information and comments and passing on relevant information to the Director/Curator.

8. To conduct research as requested by the Director/Curator and as feasible considering available resources and other duties.

9. To unarm and arm the Gift Shop alarm system, oversee distribution of the cash box to Gift Shop staff, check Gift Shop sales reconciliations and cash on hand on a daily basis, schedule volunteers for the Gift Shop, and assist Gift Shop staff as appropriate.




10. To organize bulletin boards, brochure holders, posters and other promotional material, ensuring that information is current and attractively displayed.

11. To communicate with Moose Jaw Public Library staff regarding facility bookings in order to be knowledgeable about events taking place within this facility.

12. To make arrangements with other organizations and event organizers to have information available for visitors.

13. To assist with set up and clean up for Museum programs and events.

14. To be willing to work flexible hours, as required by the nature of the position.

15. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Two years’ experience in a position dealing with the public and education or a demonstrated interest in art and/or history. Demonstrated enthusiasm for MJM&AG exhibitions and programs and the ability to interact with the public in a positive and friendly manner are requirements.
