Curatorial/Museum Assistant Summer Position

As the Curatorial/Museum Assistant, you are responsible for the following tasks:

•Works primarily with the Museum’s collection – digitizing the collection, as well as labelling, sorting, and cleaning artifacts. Photography and database entry are also included in the collection management duties.
•Collection projects will be worked on during the work term.
•Answering visitors and public’s inquiries about the Museum’s collection and local history; researching inquiries may be required.
•Assisting with the day-to-day operations which includes support for educational activities (programs, camps, tours, special events, fundraising)
•Represent the Museum at functions & events (outreach-night markets); this may include speaking about the Museum programs and events.
•Answering emails and phone calls, taking bookings and registrations for tours & programs, and various admin/office duties.
•General cleaning and maintenance as assigned by the Director or other staff.
•Other general duties as assigned.

Qualifications

We offer training and orientation for the Curatorial Museum Assistant position and would like the following qualifications for candidates:
•Students who are under the age of 30 and currently enrolled in Full-Time studies. Students must be returning to those Full-Time studies in the Fall of 2023.
•Students in Post-Secondary studies of the following areas are desired: Education, Museum Studies, History, Art History, Visual Arts, Archaeology, Anthropology, Library Studies, Marketing, Photography, and/or related studies.
•Good written and verbal communication skills.
•Great organizational skills and pay attention to detail.
•Able to perform repetitive tasks.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
•Able to perform physical tasks.
•Comfortable with the Public of all ages & backgrounds; experience working with children.
•Excellent teamwork skills; able to work independently as well.
•Prior experience working in a museum, library, art gallery, daycare, etc.; setting with children under your care.
•Knowledge of, training in, the Saskatchewan school system and curriculum, an asset.
•Must have a valid Drivers’ license.
