The Western Development Museum - Saskatoon is accepting applications for Summer Heritage Interpreter(s) for its ever-expanding summer programming and photo studio operations. The successful candidate will play a significant role in public engagement and gain valuable experience in the research, development, and presentation of public programs and the successful operation of the Boomtown Photo Studio, while interacting with and assessing the needs of Museum visitors. This employment position presents an opportunity for students to gain experience with coordinating and
managing activities and programs in a professional museum setting, while working closely with volunteers and museum staff. The successful candidate will work directly under the supervision of the Education and Public Programs Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator and Education and Public
Programming Assistant. Only students continuing full-time post-secondary studies in the fall semester will be considered.

DUTIES:
-Become familiar with the operations and history of the Western Development Museum.
-Update and present existing programs, activities and demonstrations.
-Develop and facilitate new programs, activities and demonstrations for all ages.
-Conduct research through historical archives and interviews or assist in such activities with volunteers and staff, as needed.
-Generate effective and creative ways to enhance public visitation.
-Assist with the Museum’s summer events.
-Plan and facilitate the children’s summer camp.
-Assist and work in conjunction with the WDM Volunteer Coordinator.
-Aid in the daily operation of the Boomtown Photo Studio, as needed.
-Develop and deliver off-site outreach programs for all ages.
-General administrative duties and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-Interest in and knowledge of Saskatchewan heritage and history.
-Effective research, project management, communication and public relations skills.
-Interest in developing new and innovative public and interpretive programs; previous knowledge and experience in public and interpretive program development would be an asset.
-Photography experience would be an asset.
-Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
-Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with Museum volunteers and staff.
-Be responsible and possess a high level of integrity.
-Proficient with various PC and online programs and applications, as well as the ability to use different desktop and mobile devices.
-Ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines.
-Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, with and an interest in working with a diverse population of all ages.

CONDITIONS: Salary: $12.90/hr
Employee Benefits Plan as per WDM Employees’ Handbook.
Term: May 18, 2018 - August 24, 2018
8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Shifts include weekday, weekend and occasional
evenings.
Indoor and outdoor work setting, including the Education/Public Programs, office, throughout museum galleries, and at off-site locations.
The successful candidate will need to undergo a criminal record check.
