The Nutrien Children’s Discovery Museum (CDM) is currently seeking an energetic, passionate and organized individual to join our team as the Visitor Services Representative! The successful candidate will work closely on a team of staff and volunteers in a museum that aims to foster creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children through hands-on exhibits, programming and outreach. We are looking for individuals who have an interest in encouraging learning and creativity through working with families and supporting visitor relations.

The Visitor Services Representative (VSR) role is an exciting position in our organization. It is ultimately responsible for providing a top level of customer service through connecting and serving all new visitors, recurring patrons, members and external organizations to the CDM. As the initial welcoming and service representative for the museum, the VSR facilitates day to day administrative tasks, supports visitor needs onsite and maintains a clean and organized facility environment for children and their families to learn and play together.


Customer Service
• Welcome returning visitors and members, and orientate new patrons to the museum;
• Respond to patrons needs and questions in person, through email and over the phone;
• Implement daily procedures related to admission, including accurate point of sale transactions, collecting statistics and reconciling the end of day cash-out;
• Promote information for and encourage participation in museum programs, membership registration, birthday party bookings and event attendance;
• Receive customer feedback and inform the Manager of concerns that require attention;
• Ensure museum spaces are maintained in a consistently clean and safe state;
• Work in cooperation with other members of the staff and volunteer team to ensure everyone has a positive experience.

Administrative Support
• Maintaining up to date and ongoing data entry and collection of information from patrons for organization statistics;
• Scheduling group visits and school programming requests;
• Facilitating follow-up for patron information requests;
• Assisting the Manager with promotional initiatives for membership, visits, birthday parties and special programs;
• Assist with duties related to the preparation and closure of the Market Mall museum location;
• All other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate:
• Demonstrates the ability to take initiative, make good judgment, pay attention to details, work both independently and collaboratively, and manage all forms of interaction with customers in a positive manner;
• Is positive, friendly, energetic, and enjoys working with young children and their families;
• Has experience working in the customer service industry;
• Has completed high school and holds a post-secondary education in office administration or accumulated experience with education in another field;
• Is able to work in a fast-paced and active environment;
• Knowledge and skills for computer work including office 365 software, online databases and calendar systems;
• Is available to work weekdays and weekend days;
• Has completed criminal record check within the past 6 months;
• Is legally entitled to work in Canada.

Physical Demands of this position include:
• Occasional lifting and carrying of programming materials and/or office supplies up to 30 lbs in weight;
• Periods of movement including walking, lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving and carrying items over distance;
• Periods of stationary work in an office setting;
• Working in a loud environment (multiple children playing with each other and variety of play equipment)

Term: Full-Time
Start Date: August 28th, 2018
Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday 9am-4:30pm
Wage: Starting at $14.25/hr
