The Registrar ensures the care, preservation, documentation, and information management of the Mann Art Gallery’s Permanent Collection of approximately 3,800 artworks. They work collaboratively with staff to assist in the development and implementation of in-house and offsite exhibitions and displays. The Registrar is under the supervision of the Director/Curator.

ABOUT THE MANN ART GALLERY The MAG is Prince Albert’s only professionally-run public art gallery, and the northernmost public art gallery in Saskatchewan. It thus has an important role to play in promoting local and regional artists' work through developing and touring exhibitions, producing catalogues, conducting curatorial visits, collecting art, and implementing visual arts education programs. The MAG’s programming emphasizes diversity and community involvement. Curatorially, this is achieved by exhibiting works in our three gallery spaces by professional local and provincial artists, local and provincial emerging artists, community-based arts organizations, youth, and students.

The MAG’s Permanent Collection was started in 1993. Since then, it has grown significantly, due in large part to the patronage of the Mann family. The mandate of collection focuses on acquiring local and regional artists’ contemporary and historical work, with a priority to acquire art by First Nations and Métis artists from north-central Saskatchewan region - this facet of the collection that will be particularly concentrated on over the next three years.

iMAGine Arts is the gallery’s educational program that provides access to the visual arts and professional artists for individuals in Prince Albert and the North Central Saskatchewan region, regardless of age, ability, mobility, and financial capacity. iMAGine Arts presents opportunities for beginners, professionals and everyone in between to learn about visual art techniques, materials, and ideas. The program communicates context and concepts behind contemporary and historical works of art to foster visual literacy and shares art created by students, seniors, and those with intellectual disabilities with the rest of the community.

 Salaried position of $35,490
 35 hours per week.
 The work week is Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Flexibility is required for fundraisers, events, and receptions. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
 Overtime as required. Banked hour system in place as per Human Resource Manual.
 This position includes health benefits (monthly premium split between employee and employer)

 Accessions, catalogues, photographs, researches, and manages documentation of artworks in the Permanent Collection.
 Maintains Permanent Collection records. This includes the selection and purchase of relevant computer hardware and software, the research and compilation of standards and guidelines, the selection of data entry fields, the design of the database, the establishment of syntax and vocabulary for entry, the creation of profiles, and the editing and maintenance of the system, all in collaboration with the Director/Curator.
 Monitors the condition of artworks in the collection, prepares incoming and outgoing condition reports of all loans to the collection, and plans and maintains the Vault storage areas in keeping with proper care and security procedures.
 Ensures that damage to the collection is professionally restored either in-house or via contract.
 Identifies and reports all irregularities to the Director/Curator and implements suitable conservation measures to ensure the protection of the art works.
 Performs research into cataloguing procedures and record systems in keeping with current national standards.
 In collaboration with the Director/Curator, ensures that temperature, humidity and lighting levels in all areas of the facility in which art works are exhibited or stored are monitored constantly and that appropriate records of the readings are maintained.
 Supervises all other registration staff (including students, interns, contract workers, and volunteers), establishing schedules, and evaluating performance. Trains all new related staff in these areas and has circuitous involvement in their hiring.
 Prepares draft grant applications related to the Permanent Collection in collaboration with the Director/Curator.
 Serves as advisor to the Director/Curator in regards to insurance of all works in the collection and in-house exhibitions; manages shipping in these areas; arranges appraisals and processes damage claims.
 Maintains current knowledge of all legal matters pertaining to public collecting, and related contractual arrangements.
 Acts as liaison with visiting researchers and curators regarding the collection; answers enquiries of other colleagues and those of the public as required.
 Documents exhibitions digitally and prepares digital media for artists immediately following an exhibition (as required).
 Occasionally assists with packing and unpacking of exhibitions.
 Conduct research for exhibitions, publications, and curatorial programs as assigned.
 Other related duties as assigned.

 Attend and assist in set-up/take-down of receptions/special events as required by the Director/Curator.
 Organize and arrange for volunteers as needed.
 Assist in organizing fundraising, public programming, and exhibitions as needed in consultation with the Director/Curator.
 Various administrative duties as assigned.

 Maintain thorough knowledge of current practices in the care and conservation of art works.
 Demonstrated ability to supervise staff.
 Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, artists, artwork lenders and donors and professionals in the museum community.
 Ability to maintain close attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy and to detect errors quickly.
 Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
 Demonstrated organizational skill.
 Demonstrated skill in the development and operation of relational databases, including the creation and design of customized reports.
 Experience handling a variety of artworks.
 Skill in the use of collections or data management software.

 A degree in art or art history, or a related field.
 Minimum three years' experience of related registration experience in a public art gallery or art museum.
 Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
 Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, training programs related to the care, handling, and registration of art works in a permanent collection setting.
