Heritage Saskatchewan is seeking a student to conduct research relating to places of faith in Saskatchewan. The scope of this project will examine places of faith that have received new life through adaptive re-use, those that are actively safeguarding their places for the future, and those that are being decommissioned. Research will focus on social impacts on evolving places of faith (i.e. loss of churches within rural communities) as well as environmental aspects. This work will include data collection (including stories and photos), expansion of existing inventory, and recommendations for future research.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills in English; be comfortable with working independently; be able to easily converse with a diverse range of people in terms of demographics, diversity of opinions and worldviews; and possess an ability to represent our organisation in a professional manner. The incumbent must be computer literate, with the ability to maintain a user-friendly database for the accumulated information. A background in any of these areas of studies would be an asset: Journalism, History, Religious Studies, Indigenous Studies, Political Science,
Heritage Conservation, Environment Studies, Library Science, or another Liberal Arts/Humanities program.

The student will be required to travel between communities for engagement sessions with individuals and organisations and therefore must possess a valid driver's licence. As an organisation that values diversity, we support and encourage students from diverse cultural backgrounds to apply.

Timeframe: May 11, 2020 to August 28, 2020 inclusive.

Compensation: $15.00/hour. Heritage Saskatchewan will cover mandatory costs such as Worker's Compensation, CPP, etc. The student will be supplied with a computer, meeting room access, and related supplies. As the work will require some travel in the identified region, Heritage Saskatchewan will cover related travel costs (including a vehicle for transportation outside the city).

Location: The student will work out of the Heritage Saskatchewan office, which is located in downtown Regina.
