Members of the community,

As some of you may be aware, planning to host the 2018 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Canada’s largest academic conference, is underway at the University of Regina. More than 7,000 academics, researchers, students, and community members are expected to attend the 87th annual Congress which will take place on our campus May 26 – June 1, 2018.

In conjunction with Congress, the University is developing a series of events – Cultural Connections – that will enhance the Congress experience by providing opportunities for learning, reflection, and networking; providing entertainment for Congress attendees; creatively bridging the social sciences, humanities, and the arts; and building community spirit by building on the Congress theme, Gathering diversities.
Not only does the Congress theme honour Regina’s storied history a sacred meeting place for generations of Indigenous peoples, it speaks to the University of Regina’s institutionally entrenched value of inclusivity, and it’s increasingly diverse campus today. Cultural programming that is in keeping with this theme will provide an opportunity to showcase the University’s strengths in the areas of art and technology, music, theatre, film, and visual arts, and build connections with Regina’s arts community at large.

With this call for proposals, we invite members of the campus and arts community to reflect on the Congress 2018 theme and submit their ideas for Cultural Connections events. Successful proposals will be eligible for financial support towards honoraria and artist fees.

To learn more, and submit your ideas, please visit the website.

Applications are due September 29, 2017. Proposals will be evaluated by the Cultural Programming Committee and planning for event logistics will begin in Fall 2017. For further information and application submission, please contact Patty Niebergall, Project Manager at patty.niebergall@uregina.ca or 306-585-4952 or André Magnan, Academic Convenor, andre.magnan@uregina.ca or 306-585-4863.

Help us honour the differences that make us stronger. Submit your proposal to gain access to a national audience at Congress 2018.
Thank you,

André Magnan,
Academic Convenor, Congress 2018
