Deadline

April 26, 2019

The Camp fYrefly Artist in Residence (AIR) program hosts emerging and established artists who have demonstrated a commitment to innovation, exploration, community outreach, and public understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences and identities. The AIR program draws from all disciplines, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, music, literature, dance, conceptual and installation art, and contemporary performance. Working collaboratively with our team of adult mentors, artists help introduce new techniques, materials, and ideas designed to help youth to grow individually and to transform their communities.

The Camp fYrefly AIR program is committed to strengthening the vitality of the arts and the powerful role they can play in public education and the pursuit of human rights and social justice for all youth. All artists are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:
The AIR will commit to the full 4 days of camp (August 15 to 18, 2019) and the training session before camp (August 14). We are open to ideas about how and where artists would like to fit into the program. As an example from past camps the various roles of the AIR typically entails, but is not limited to the following:
 Opening keynote address on the first evening of the camp
 A workshop or session during the concurrent sessions in their area of artistic expertise
 Assisting with the overall flow and or choreography of the Showcase production
 Being the host for the Showcase event – introducing each of the groups who will be performing
 Generally being present during all camp activities, mingling with the pods/groups of campers during their quiet small group pod times to engage in conversations with the youth.
 Is required to provide a criminal records check and vulnerable sector check in advance of camp.

It is expected the AIR will be on site at camp for the duration of the camp. The accommodations, including meals, will be at the Camp fYrefly facilities. The AIR will have a non-shared private room at the retreat centre.

The Camp will in return will provide an honorarium to the Artist in Residence and reimbursement for any travel expenses (economy class return airfare to Saskatoon, or gas and mileage if driving from out of town); and out of pocket expenses related to workshops or sessions.
