The Professional Development series has been created to support contemporary and traditional Indigenous artists from Regina and surrounding area with creating their professional portfolio to be used to further their art practice. The series will engage professional artists to share their expertise and support the selected Indigenous artists through a series of workshops to develop their careers. Participants will receive an $500 honourarium for completing the workshop series.

This group is for Indigenous artists that are at the early stages of their professional arts practice and are looking to develop their artistic careers. Desired applicants will be of the age 18 or older and have an existing art practice, however, no exhibition or sale experience necessary. Priority will be given to Sâkêwêwak Members.

Next Wave will span across 7 months with various workshops occurring once a month until February 2023. The workshop series will include 6 workshops on: Alternative Ways to Display, Writing your Artist Bio/Statement and getting a professional headshot, Budgets/Financials as an artist, Writing your grant (participants will submit a grant by the end), Navigating being an Indigenous Artist (Protocols, supports, networking), and Working Collaboratively (How to do a partnership, form a collective, working together).

• 3-5 images of your work
• Approx 50-100 words per question:
1. Your artistic experience
2. Artist discipline/medium
3. Why you would benefit from the professional development series
4. Most common material you use

The selected artists for the program will be emailed before July 1st, 2022.
