International Day of Sign Languages

September 23

Adopted by the United Nations in 2017, the International Day of Sign Languages marks the date of founding for the World Foundation of the Deaf, and celebrates the more than 300 different sign languages that are used throughout the world. It is also a day to raise awareness of issues that face the deaf and hard of hearing world-wide, and the importance the role of language plays in human and cultural development.
