Adopted by UNESCO in 2011, and spearheaded by pianist Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day is a day to celebrate jazz music and its role in diplomacy. The day celebrates jazz's roots, the need for intercultural dialogue and exchange, and the free promotion of expression.
