Kwanzaa is a African American and pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community and culture established by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966. It focuses on the Nguzo Saba (Seven Principles) of:

  • Umoja (Unity)
  • Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
  • Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
  • Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
  • Nia (Purpose)
  • Kuumba (Creativity)
  • Imani (Faith)
