In October 2025, the Board appointed Mirtha Rivera to SaskCulture’s Board of Directors to fill the remainder of a one-year term under the Multiculturalism category. This appointment follows the resignation of Lamarr Oksasikewiyin, who was originally elected in June 2022 and stepped down in May 2025.
Mirtha is a preschool teacher and performer who came to Canada from Chile in 1975. She previously served as co-chair of Common Weal Community Arts Inc. and is a popular theatre educator who created “Life” (Little Improvs for Education) for APSS in 1992. Mirtha has served on several community boards, is very active in the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community, and regularly volunteers to support the houseless population by providing meals every Sunday at Pepsi Park.
