Art for Lunch at the Hicks Gallery: John Brady McDonald, Omentum

John V. Hicks Gallery (in the Margo Fournier Arts Centre, Prince Albert)
Free admission | Everyone welcome

Join us for a special Art for Lunch taking place at the John V. Hicks Gallery! Spend your noon hour immersed in art and conversation as Lana Wilson leads a free public tour of the OSAC touring exhibition Omentum by artist John Brady McDonald.

Omentum is a series of ten paintings that explore major experiences faced by Indigenous people in Canada within recent memory. Influenced by both Norval Morrisseau and Pablo Picasso, McDonald’s works address subjects such as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Cultural Appropriation, the legacy of Residential Schools, the honouring of Two-Spirit identities, the resurgence of Traditional Indigenous Tattooing, and the murder of Colten Boushie. (Excerpt adapted from the OSAC website.)

John Brady McDonald is a Nehiyawak-Métis writer, artist, historian, musician, playwright, actor, and activist from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. A descendant of Chief Mistawasis and Métis leader Jim Brady, his work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally, including at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Bring your lunch, bring a friend, and join us for an inspiring noon-hour tour and discussion of this powerful exhibition.
