Reconciliation, Understanding, and Community- through Art, Culture and Sport/ Recreation

This year marks the the 50th anniversary of Waskimo which started in 1975/76. Today we are called Wascana Winter Festival a change we made in the late 2000's to be more culturally appropriate.
Waskimo has always been the premier Regina Winter Festival. Over the years the festival has morphed with the times and now is a better part of a week long art, cultural and sport/recreational festival. The Festival runs through Family Day week ending on Feb 21, 2026

The festival’s key role is to celebrate Regina's Art, Cultural and sport/recreational community and its amenities, especially the jewel that is Wascana Park.

February 12, 2026 Indigenous story teller- Free to all
This is our 50th year and we are bringing a robust slate of activities starting with an event on campus at the U of Regina featuring renown indigenous story teller Calvin Racette in honor of February being story teller month.

February 16, 2026 10:30- 5:00 Wascana Winter Festival fun day- free to all
on the Legislative lawns, Wascana Park, sleigh rides, skating a tent full of fun, and a Rugby snow cup tournament alongside Snow Cricket, Snow Yoga, and other outdoor activities.

For our 50th Over the Family Day weekend on the Monday, we have been afforded a tent to host some of our special 50th anniversary events alongside our usual sleigh rides, tours of the Legislative Buildings, skating, snow Yoga from the YMCA and Snow Cricket from the Cavelier Club.
This year being our 50th we have a 50th anniversary Rugby fun cup tournament by local teams in partnership with Rugby Saskatchewan. The Cup is called the Duke, Lane, Reynolds 50th

To top it off Wascana Authority has offered us a tent to hold our 50th anniversary entertainment. This tent will be the highlight of 50th.

We plan on having several groups sponsored by the Regina Multicultural Council perform some wonderful cultural offerings.

This is a modified version of the famous Out House Racers from back in the day at Waskimo. The Wascana Winter Festival as part of our 50th anniversary we present The Gift of Winter exhibition, ‘The Gift of Winter’ showcases works by renowned Saskatchewan artists, Claude Morin, Wilf Perrault, alongside local artists, Ken Tickner, Phill Haughian, Bob Friedrich, and Murray Seitz. Each artist employs a distinct medium. Claude Morin, a celebrated ceramist and visual artist, has toured with esteemed individuals such as Joe Fafard. Wilf Perreault is an internationally recognized painter whose Back Alley scenes inspire all. Bob, Ken and Murray explore the realms of painting, photography and poetry, while Phil’s wildlife carvings draw inspiration from his extensive conservation experience.
