Exhibition Opening: land home land by Gabriela Garcia-Luna

land home land is an exhibition of work by Gabriela García-Luna resulting from her residency at the John V. Hicks Gallery in May 2026. The residency was designed to support artistic exploration, community connection, and reflect the proximity of the Arts Centre to the North Saskatchewan River. land home land runs from June 1st to 23rd and showcases the personal significance of the natural world to Gabriela Garcia-Luna.

Join us for an opening reception and artist talk on Thursday June 4th at 7:00 PM.

The residency and exhibition are curated by Jesse Campbell. The project is funded by the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation, and is in partnership with the P.A. Council for the Arts, the Margo Fournier Arts Centre, and the City of Prince Albert.

Gabriela García-Luna is a photo-based multimedia artist born in Mexico City and living in Treaty Six Territory/ Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Her artistic practice started with photography and expands into digital work, printmaking, drawing, video and installation. In her work, she explores her relationships with and indexes of her personal history to investigate ideas of unity, separation, fragility, resilience, presence and absence and the points of contact of different realities to be seen.

García-Luna has attended national and international artistic residencies. She has also exhibited in multiple solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, Canada, UK and India, and she has received grants and awards from FONCA (National Foundation for Culture and Art Fellowship in Mexico, the Saskatchewan Arts Board. and Canada Council of the Arts, among others. Her work is part of public and private national and international collections Including the Galería Libertad and Coleccion Omnilife, Mexico, TD Bank, Saskatchewan Arts Board, MacKenzie Art Gallery, and Global Affairs Canada. García-Luna is represented commercially by Slate Gallery (Regina) and Art Placement (Saskatoon).
