Description:
Buckle up and join us for The Métis Roadshow, a lively, interactive, and heartfelt journey through the stories, culture, and spirit of the Métis people! Celebrate Louis Riel Day with us as we explore the vibrant tapestry of Métis history, identity, and traditions, and challenge the stereotypes that have shaped perceptions over generations.

Guided by Shelley Belhumeur and Jennifer Lenny (they/them), two proud Métis knowledge keepers and storytellers, we’ll travel through stories of belonging, spirituality, and community across generations.

Shelley Belhumeur (she, her) is a Métis woman from Wakaw, SK, deeply involved in her Indigenous culture as a Knowledge Keeper, Elder, and Pipe Carrier. She holds ceremonies and teaches cultural awareness throughout Saskatchewan. After 33+ years of service with Saskatchewan Polytechnic, where she worked as a Sign Language Interpreter, Coordinator of the Indigenous Student Centre, and Indigenous Student Advisor, Shelley now serves as an Elder at the First Nations University of Canada. She also teaches the Driving Without Impairment (DWI) program, helping people make safe and lasting changes in their lives. Her passions include travelling, learning from other cultures, sharing her own knowledge, playing Bridge, and fishing.

Jennifer Lenny (they/them) is a Métis Two-Spirit of Woodland Cree and settler ancestry (British, Scottish, and Italian), living in Treaty 6 Territory and the Homelands of the Métis in Prince Albert. A registered member of the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan, Jennifer’s leadership in reconciliation and advocacy has been recognized through the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal of Saskatchewan and by Métis Central Western Region 2 for outstanding work with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Together, Shelley and Jennifer will lead an engaging evening of storytelling and reflection. We’ll honour Louis Riel’s legacy, celebrate Métis resilience, and deepen our collective understanding of identity, inclusion, and community.

So, grab a cup of tea, put on your sash (if you have one!), and join us on Zoom for an evening of learning and laughter, Métis-style!
