In this Art Gallery of Regina member exhibition, By The Shore, Hylton paints from a childhood steeped in the rhythms of the Acadian coast.
A vivid dreamscape unfolds across her work–land, sea, and sky meet, not as fixed boundaries–but as fluid shifting relationships. Luminous blues stretch and breathe like open water while soft bands of sky in pinks and lavenders offer a moment of stillness and calm.
Throughout the paintings, small, simplified houses are anchors of human presence within the landscape. They offer a sense of warmth and belonging, a reminder that even within the vast landscape there is shelter, connection and stories: stories of cousins, laughter and rituals by the sea.
