An educational experience in advancing Reconciliation, honouring Indigenous voices and improving cultural relationships.
Our 7-hour training session builds capacity and moves beyond general awareness. Participants engage in deep-reflection, applied learning, and practical tools.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Culture: Understanding cultural humility, cultural competency & cultural safety.
- Indigenous Culture: components, teachings, drumming & dancing, 4 sacred Medicines, Elders, and ceremonies.
- Indigenous History in Canada & Saskatchewan: colonial policies and programs, Residential Schools, Day Schools, Federal Boarding Homes, 60s Scoop, Indian Hospital
- Racism in the 21st Century: cultural appropriation vs. appreciation, insensitive terms/phrases, social inequities in healthcare, justice, environmental, children in care, intergenerational trauma and trauma-informed care, etc.
- Reconciliation: what is it, how is Canada doing, and steps in the right direction?
- Applying Your Knowledge: Better cross-cultural communication, understanding bias, examining privilege, Indigenous allyship, racism, how to help
