A Feis (pronounced ‘fesh’) is an Irish dance competition, regulated by An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG), or The Irish Dancing Commission. The Feis on the Flatlands is proud to provide the city with their only opportunity to share in the spectacular and captivating display of Irish culture which showcases Irish language, music, art, and dance.
This event is expected to bring approximately 250-300 dancers and their families from across Western Canada, as well as international judges and musicians, to Saskatoon. A Feis is an amazing experience for competitors and spectators alike. Dancers compete to live, traditional Irish music played by world renowned musicians on site. Dancers range in age from 4 to >50 years, but are primarily youth, and represent all levels of skill and ability. There are both solo and team dance events. In addition to the traditional music, costuming, and dance steps, Feisanna integrate the Gaelic language throughout the event, allowing an often-lost part of the Irish culture to carry on throughout the world.
