Threads Become Petals: Petrykivka Artist Talk and Reception
Petrykivka artist Dawna Hawrysh will present her works, sharing her inspiration and the transition of her journey which began as a tribute to her great-grandparents and evolved into a broader exploration of the people, traditions and artistic practices that connect generations and shape a sense of belonging.
Dawna is a Canadian of Ukrainian descent, born in Regina, now living in Calgary. Her work is inspired by her family history and traditions
In 2013, Petrykivka painting was recognized by its inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, with the definition "Petrykivka decorative painting as a phenomenon of the Ukrainian ornamental art."
