Community Engagement Assistant

The Saskatchewan Archaeological Society (SAS) is seeking a motivated post-secondary graduate to support and promote our programs and services. The successful candidate will engage with a broad range of stakeholders including members, chapters, Indigenous communities and organizations, educational institutions, government bodies, and the public.

Position Type: Part-time, Permanent
Location: Saskatoon
Salary: $25-28/hr for 20 hrs/week (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
Start Date: January 1, 2026

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the development, facilitation, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of SAS programs and services.
• Support the management of SAS social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and create original, engaging content.
• Provide reception services (in-person, phone, email, mail) for members and non-members, or direct inquiries to the appropriate staff.
• Assist the Executive Director with grant applications and reporting.
• Provide content for the SAS quarterly newsletter.
• Collaborate with community organizations, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to ensure resources are inclusive, accurate, and culturally appropriate.
• Ensure technical accuracy and up-to-date relevance of all resources created or shared.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase program participation and foster community engagement.
• Identify opportunities for project improvement to advance SAS’s strategic goals and initiatives.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
• Prepare regular progress reports and presentations as required.
• Assist with hiring and supervising summer students.
• Support additional organizational tasks as required.

Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of Canadian archaeology and history, particularly within the Prairie region.
• Strong communication skills, including writing, speaking, and active listening.
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to team and community work.
• Creativity and adaptability in finding solutions.
• Confidence and experience in public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, Museum Studies, History, or a related field.
• Experience with project coordination.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva.
• Experience with social media management.
• Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
• Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector.
