Museum Assistant (Curatorial and Administration)
Watrous-Manitou Beach Heritage Centre, Watrous

We are seeking two museum assistants to support daily museum operations while gaining hands-on experience in the heritage sector.
While both positions share the same responsibilities and training, one position will place a greater emphasis on collections, cataloguing and database work; the second will have a broader public engagement focus.
Students will assist with:
• Visitor services, including greeting visitors, providing information, and supporting guided or informal tours
• Exhibition preparation, installation, maintenance, and dismantling
• Public programming and educational events
• Collections management, cataloguing, and digitization of museum records in the SaskCollections database
• Administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and general office support
This position offers mentorship and training in museum operations, collections care, public engagement, and professional workplace skills. Students will gain valuable experience working with museum staff, volunteers, and the public, while contributing to the preservation and promotion of local heritage.
Required Qualifications
• Must be a student between 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Interest in museums, cultural heritage, or public engagement
• Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and willingness to learn
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Basic computer skills; willingness to learn specialized software and museum databases
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with light lifting
• Comfortable working with the public in a busy summer environment
• Available for some weekend and occasional evening work may be required during special events or peak summer periods
The ideal candidate should demonstrate an interest in history, heritage preservation, public engagement, and learning in a professional workplace environment. Field of study preferred, but not required: museum studies, history, heritage conservation, archaeology, cultural studies, library and information studies, and related humanities, education, social sciences or arts programs.
