Collections Assistant

Beginning May 4, 2026, the Collections Assistant will work with the MJMAG Staff to establish a data migration plan from our current database (Virtual Collections) to the Museums Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) online database. They will work with the MAS staff to design the layout of the new collections database and then begin to transfer collections data from one database to another. This job is a data entry job.

Note: International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
Required Education and Experience: Undergraduate College or University student in history, education, art, or a field of study related to multiculturalism, and experience or interest working in a museum environment.
Computer literacy, experience in database management, Excel, and Office Products are considered an asset. A desire to gain skills in this area is desirable.

The tasks and responsibilities of the Collections Assistant are:
-document the location and condition of works put into temporary storage during the installation of new racks and shelving.
-document new locations for works as the vault gets reorganized.
-create conditioning reports for new acquisitions to the collection, uploading object files to database.
-data transfer from current database to the new collections database.
Employment Period: May 4, 2026 through August 28, 2026
Number of Weeks: 17 (Monday through Friday)
Hours/Week: 35
Rate/Hour: $16.00/hour plus vacation pay (paid out)

An orientation meeting will be held on the first day of work, providing information, training, safety, procedures, and associated risks with regard to the position. Such information will be provided as: who to report to, with regard to accidents or harassment, procedures, and equipment to deal with emergencies, and where to find first aid materials.
