Board of Directors

BlackFlash Magazine, Saskatchewan
Deadline: November 14, 2025 - December 05, 2025
BlackFlash Magazine is accepting applications to join our Board of Directors.

BlackFlash fosters critical discourse and thoughtful engagement with contemporary art practice from a distinctive prairie perspective. BlackFlash is published in Saskatoon by Buffalo Berry Press, a registered not-for-profit corporation with charitable status.

BlackFlash is a platform for emerging and established artists, writers, and curators. It supports the development of professional art practice while providing space for culturally and artistically diverse voices. Although its programming includes contributors from across Canada and abroad, BlackFlash maintains a particular commitment to practitioners working in the prairies.

Those interested in contributing are invited to submit a brief statement of interest, maximum one page, outlining how they can best support the publication, along with a résumé, to chair[at]blackflash[dot]ca. Applications are reviewed by an internal committee, with successful candidates invited to interview; the deadline for applications is December 05, 2025.

Board members commit to a minimum two-year volunteer term and are eligible for reappointment for additional terms at the discretion of the Board. Members will bring leadership, energy, and experience to the organization. The BlackFlash Board of Directors is a working board whose members actively contribute to fundraising and sponsorship, governance, and human resources, among other aspects of the organization. The organization values diverse cultural backgrounds and age groups and strives for balanced gender representation.

In addition to recruiting Members at Large, the BlackFlash Board of Directors is currently aiming to fill its Executive roles, with terms starting in December 2025.

Successful candidates will have:
-An interest in advocating and promoting contemporary art and small arts publishing.
-A passion for building the Prairie art community.
-Capacity and/or knowledge to contribute to activities such as fundraising and sponsorship, outreach, grant writing, and financial literacy.

For all roles, experience with non-profit arts organizations is an asset. The expected time commitment is approximately 5 volunteer hours (variable) each month for board meetings, committee work, and other board initiatives. Priority will be given to Prairie-based applicants, specifically Saskatoon, although all interested candidates are encouraged to apply. New members will be voted in at our December 2025, Annual General Meeting.
