DISCOVER YOUR COMMUNITY’S
Culture, Sport & Recreation STRENGTHS

A Facilitated Workshop for Ideas, Connection & Action

Host a guided, participatory asset mapping workshop where community members passionate about sport, culture/arts, or recreation come together to:
✨ Brainstorm local assets
✨ Share knowledge and lived experiences
✨ Connect ideas and resources
✨ Turn strengths into real actions

What Is This Workshop About?
This session is rooted in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) — an approach that builds communities from what they already have.
Instead of focusing on problems, we focus on:
✅ Skills and talents of residents
✅ Local organizations and services
✅ Local spaces and facilities
✅ Cultural and social networks

What Happens in the Session?
Through a facilitated process, participants will:
• Identify and map community strengths and resources
• Work together to uncover connections between assets
• Explore gaps and opportunities
• Generate ideas for action based on what exists locally
👉 You won’t just leave with a list — you’ll leave with ideas and momentum

How Communities Use This Work
• Strategic planning – often the first step in municipal cultural planning
• Grant applications – strengthens proposals with clear local evidence
• Program development – creates relevant and sustainable initiatives
👉 Example: Identifying a need for youth programming and responding
• Helps avoid duplication of services
• Reveals hidden or underused assets
👉 Example: Turning a facility into a multi purpose, year round space

🤝 Why It Matters
Asset Mapping is more than inventory — it’s about:
💡 Building relationships
💡 Connecting people and resources
💡 Turning community strengths into collective action
Every community already has what it needs to grow; this workshop helps you unlock it.
