Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) Emerging is an immersive program of studio practice, creative exploration, critical feedback, and mentorship for visual artists of all ages in the early stages of their careers.

BAiR Emerging combines the artistic freedom of a self-directed residency with the supportive benefits of an organized program. As well as having the space to create, research, and experiment, participants are part of a community of emerging artists committed to developing and expanding their practice.

Announcing a pan-Canadian call for projects for artists, cultural workers and organizations, as well as, local communities.

Launched by the Fondation Jean Paul Riopelle in collaboration with Culture pour tous as part of the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth, the Dialogues: Encounters around Riopelle's Oeuvre from Sea to sea Program aims to support artistic and cultural initiatives that bring communities across Canada into dialogue with Riopelle's work.

Financial support (up to $30,000 per project) and personalized accompaniment will be offered to selected projects that will be deployed in 2023 in the 13 provinces and territories of Canada.

Banff Centre | Final Tuning | Winter 2023

The Final Tuning Dance residency provides two choreographers or dance companies with the time, space, and resources to advance an already developed work to the next stage. The selected companies will receive access to a Banff Centre dance studio for 3 weeks, with the support of our Director of Dance, Alejandro Ronceria and visiting Faculty.

This residency is geared towards emerging and/or established choreographers and established dance companies, working in any form, who are seeking to work on the finishing touches of their projects.

During this period of rights recognition, Indigenous peoples are implementing self-government as an exercise of self-determination. Establishing strong and appropriate institutions of governance is an essential part of self-government. Nations that establish effective and culturally appropriate institutions are politically and economically more powerful and better equipped to take action to improve the lives of their citizens. There are lessons to be learned from the experiences of Nations that are actively rebuilding and new tools being developed to support nation rebuilding.
