UNESCO Launches International Decade of Indigenous Languages

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization marked the official launch of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages on April 22. UNESCO plans to spend the next decade ensuring that Indigenous peoples' right to preserve, revitalize and promote their languages is upheld while also working to promote mainstream linguistic diversity and multilingualism in sustainable development efforts. Stakeholders from across the world are encouraged to register on the IDIL website to share information about their work, create and promote events and to connect partners working to promote Indigenous languages worldwide.
