Getting Real about Reconciliation, a Virtual Symposium
Getting Real About Reconciliation - A Virtual Symposium by Heritage Saskatchewan in partnership with the Museums Association of Saskatchewan
Join us for two afternoons of presentations and stimulating discussions centered on the theme of reconciliation through concrete action. Since reconciliation extends beyond the culture and heritage sector, we invite individuals from every field to listen and participate in discussion.
Day 1: Our keynote panel moderated by Kristin Catherwood (Director of Living Heritage, Heritage Saskatchewan), will include a candid discussion with three individuals deeply immersed in the work of reconciliation: Chief Cadmus Delorme (Cowessess First Nation), Cody Groat (University of Western Ontario), and Dr. Gerald Pocius (Cape Breton University). Their presentations, followed by curated discussion, will focus on the question, “what is needed to advance reconciliation in Canada?” We welcome chat box questions, comments, and insights throughout this stimulating panel! The afternoon will conclude with a presentation and discussion about Covid-19 Culture: A Living Heritage Project of the Pandemic in Saskatchewan, a project undertaken in 2020 by Heritage Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society, in partnership with the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan.
Day 2: Take in five short Spark Sessions that feature reconciliation work in action across Saskatchewan. Our Spark presenters will share lessons learned about reconciliation and offer examples of how they take action in their work. Dr. Sheelah McLean will then present a compelling session, “Rethinking Prairie Histories,” focusing on allyship. The day will conclude with an opportunity for symposium participants to discuss learnings from the past two days’ presentations and consider actions moving forward.
