Artist’s Talk with Betsy Rosenwald

A special Artist’s Talk with Betsy Rosenwald, in conversation with the Museum’s Executive Director, Jen Budney.

Developed during her 2025 research as Artist-in-Residence at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Rosenwald’s exhibition To Understanding, Through Understanding brings together a powerful body of drawings and paintings that explore identity, memory, and migration. Through deeply personal research, she traces her family’s roots to Ukrainian cities such as L’viv, Belz, and Bila Tserkva—reframing her own understanding of heritage and belonging. Her work engages directly with histories marked by violence and displacement, particularly those affecting Jewish communities in Ukraine, weaving intimate family stories with broader historical realities.

In this conversation, Rosenwald will reflect on her residency, her research process, and the evolution of the exhibition—and the many conversations it has already inspired—offering insight into a practice that connects personal discovery with larger cultural narratives.

To Understanding, Through Understanding continues to May 2.

No registration required.
