SPIRIT AND INTENT OF TREATIES 1 THROUGH 7

Guest speaker: Dr. Sheldon Krasowski, Director of Research and Archives, Office of the Treaty Commissioner
Through his presentation, Dr. Krasowski will share why the spirit and intent of treaties 1 through 7 is critical to understanding the complicated relationship between the Crown and First Nations people. We will learn how treaties are more than written documents and that to fully understand the context of treaties, one must understand what the spirit was and what the intentions were at the time of treaty-making. The spirit and intent refers to the sacredness of the treaties, which was not recorded in written form.

Other upcoming sessions:
- Wapaha Sk̄a Oyate: Living Our Culture, Sharing our Community at Pion-Era, 1955 – 69 – November 15, with guest speaker: Dr. Elizabeth Scott, WDM Curator
