“Bones of Crows” is a powerful Canadian film directed by Marie Clements, released in 2022. Unfolding over 100 years, “Bones of Crows” is a feature film told through the eyes of Cree Matriarch Aline Spears as she survives a childhood in Canada’s residential school system to continue her family’s generational fight for justice and survival in the face of systemic starvation, racism, and sexual abuse.
The screening of "Bones of Crows" is presented on September 30 in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The screening is free and open to the public, allowing all viewers to engage with this important story and reflect on the history of Canada's Indigenous peoples and the importance of truth and reconciliation.
Prior to the screening, the public is invited to the front lawn of the Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre at 1:30 p.m. to participate in a smudging prayer led by Indigenous knowledge-keeper Michael McIsaac. The film screening will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre (show runs approximately 2 hours - rated 14A). Following the screening, the public is welcome to return to the Grand Coteau Heritage & Cultural Centre to participate in a talking circle and light meal.
This special film screening event is presented in partnership with the Shaunavon Plaza Theatre.
