Small Works From a Big Land Festive Reception
Artwork from across Saskatchewan now showing in Val Marie
On Sunday, June 23, from 2 to 4 pm, Prairie Wind & Silver Sage in Val Marie will celebrate the contributions of artists from across Saskatchewan in a new exhibition “Small Works from a Big Land.”
Early in 2024, a call went out to Saskatchewan artists far and wide, inviting participation in a group exhibition. Every artist who responded would have at least one work included and the only restriction was one of size—all works were to be no larger than 16 x 20 inches.
The response was exceptional. Over 40 artworks were submitted, representing the province from Radisson to Weyburn, Prince Albert to Swift Current, Val Marie to Leroy, and including Saskatoon and Regina and the areas around them. The artists are all accomplished, and at the same time, vary from emerging to experienced.
As Natalia Sundbo, Summer Museum Coordinator at Prairie Wind & Silver Sage, notes, “The creativity and the process behind each piece is really unique, especially from that of local artists who portray the beautiful prairie landscape of Southern Saskatchewan.”
Art events such as this always surprise and inspire, and provide an opportunity for beginning artists as well as more experienced ones. The work is as varied as the audience.
Small Works from a Big Land is showing in the Cloakroom Gallery at Prairie Wind & Silver Sage in Val Marie, from now until September 1. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 9 am to 1 pm, and 2 pm to 5 pm.
