3rd Annual 2 Spirits in Motion Society’s Traditional Powwow
Our Powwow prides itself in being a gender-affirming celebration, designed to ensure our community feels safe, supported, and able to show up as their true selves. Attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in Indigenous culture through a variety of activities, including teachings, drumming, dancing, arts/vendors, and cultural demonstrations. Event highlights include a showcase of Indigenous artwork, special exhibition dances, tipi displays, photo ops and more!
Traditional pow wow means that there will be no competition for places to win in each age dancing categories but instead paying a daily honorarium for each dancer for sharing their gift and talent of dance. The Traditional Pow-wow: by showcasing Two-Spirit traditions, dances, regalia, and teachings, the powwow educates both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people about the diversity of Indigenous cultures and the importance of respecting Two-Spirit identities. The Traditional Pow-wow is supporting the 2SiMS Staff, Youth Council, Elders/Knowledge Holders Council, Executive Directors Committee, and Board of Directors to take part in all ceremonial practices that will be shared at this event. It will include spiritual connection for the youth council and the youth who attend either in song and dance. This is a safe space for 2SLGBTQQIA+ and 2SQTIP youth to reconnect with cultural traditions and safely participate in a community event in spaces that affirm their gender identities.
