General Description:
Reporting to the Facility and Maintenance Supervisor, the Exhibits Maintenance and Collections Care Technician assists the WDM in achieving its public trust responsibilities by ensuring indoor and outdoor exhibits and gallery spaces and cleanliness of the collection are maintained to a high standard. Performs the tasks necessary for daily care and upkeep of artifacts, exhibits and gallery spaces. Coordinates and conducts repairs when required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Construct, install, and repair indoor galleries and outdoor exhibit buildings.
• Regularly inspect exhibits, artifacts, and spaces; document and report issues.
• Perform minor exhibit repairs and acquire parts or help as needed.
• Plan and document maintenance projects with relevant museum staff.
• Use schematics and manuals for maintaining exhibit systems, including AV equipment.
• Set up and dismantle temporary/traveling exhibits.
• Handle and transport artifacts safely to protect collection integrity.
• Assist with building exhibit structures and special event setups.
• Maintain inventory of materials, tools, and order supplies as needed.
• Operate forklift, aerial lift, and other equipment in exhibit storage areas.
• Process purchase orders, quotes, and expense forms for exhibit needs.
• Coordinate opening and closing of Heritage Village and exhibit spaces.
• Keep accurate records of exhibit maintenance and artifact status.
• Supervise volunteer use of shop tools for exhibit projects.
• Dust and clean artifacts and exhibit areas per museum standards.
• Conduct periodic inventories of the collection.
• Undertake special artifact preservation projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5–6 years of relevant experience required
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license is mandatory
• Grade 12 or equivalent education is an asset
• Museum or gallery work experience is a strong asset
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
• Computer skills are required
Additional Information:
The work schedule is full time with 72 hours per 2 week pay period, primarily weekdays with occasional weekends and evenings as needed. This position includes paid sick leave, participation in the Public Employees’ Pension Plan (with employer contribution matching) and health and dental benefits as per the WDM Benefits Package.
