Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy Amended by House of Commons

On Tuesday, July 21 the House of Commons unanimously approved changes to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program. The amendments will now be sent to the Senate for final approval before being sent for Royal Assent.

Of particular note from these amendments is a change to the eligiblity of organizations who have their payroll administered by an external agency. Previously, organizations required their own CRA business number and/or RP account in order to apply for the CEWS benefit.

With the passing of this amendment, eligibility is now extended to organizations who have their payroll administered by another organization. SaskCulture is aware that this was an issue for many organizations within Saskatchewan who rely on the Admin Centre to handle their payroll accounts, and we had been working with our partners to bring awareness of this issue to the federal government. With the passing of this amendment, that should no longer be a barrier for organizations to apply for the CEWS program.
