Join the Art Gallery of Regina's Summer Art Educator, Emily Nestor, to create collaborative storybooks inspired by the AGR's current exhibition Messages from the Rocks - Stories of the Invisible. Working with sheets of eco-printed paper, participants will leave this collaborative bookmaking workshop with a varied edition artist's book. Each sheet of eco-printed paper is dyed with a unique pattern of natural pigments created by placing local plant leaves and flowers on treated paper and running it through a roller press. Taking inspiration from Messages From the Rocks - Stories of the Invisible, participants will be asked to seek out the unseen and unexplained in the abstract shapes created by the eco-printing process. Each participant will add to these abstract shapes using pen and ink, transforming them into places, plants, animals, inanimate objects, or perhaps invisible things. The participants will then trade their drawn paper with others, collaboratively developing stories from the vague traces of vegetable pigment by adding additional drawing or text. Books will be finished using various needle and thread bookbinding techniques. The AGR supplies materials for this workshop. This workshop is suitable for adults, youth and children aged ten and older.
