Call for Sound Designer – HAMLET by: WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (1 position)

Are you passionate about bringing stories to life through sound? Do you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment? If so, we invite you to join us at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan as our Sound Designer for our Mainstage production of Hamlet. Directed by Kayvon Khoshkam, this year's production will transport you back in time. As the Sound Designer, you will play a pivotal role in creating immersive auditory experiences for one of Canada's most unique outdoor Shakespeare festivals.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with directors and production team to conceptualize and execute sound designs that enhance the storytelling and atmosphere of each production.

Design and compose musical/audio elements for the productions as presented by the theatre.

Support the setup of sound equipment, including microphones, speakers, and playback devices.

Work within the festival’s speaker plot, with any additional elements to be discussed with the Production Manager.

Provide a cue list to the Stage Manager prior to the first level session.

Attend level and cueing sessions, as well as Q-Q and technical rehearsals, to review sound elements in the space.

Make yourself available for short periods of time to attend both rehearsals and production meetings as requested by the Production Manager or the Show Director.

Inform the theatre on an ongoing basis of any other design commitments which may impact upon the productions.

Other duties related to the design and performance of the productions as assigned by the theatre.



Qualifications:

Minimum of 4 years experience in sound design and operation for live performances, preferably in outdoor or unconventional settings.

Strong knowledge of sound design principles, techniques, and software tools.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate rehearsal and performance schedules.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Familiarity with Occupational Safety Guidelines for the Performing Arts industry and relevant Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
